Using some of the rarest casks that have been carefully matured in Traditional American and European Oak in The Balvenie warehouses, Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE creates to craft a bold marriage of extraordinary character, The Balvenie 40 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

Rich and refined; intense honeyed oak and rich fruit create a complex layer of sweetness and spice; then warm notes of  ginger and citrus are revealed.

At 40 years of age, this is Balvenie’s oldest regularly released bottling. Each new batch is created as the previous one runs low and is focused around a careful blend of old sherry and bourbon casks.

To create this, Malt Master David Stewart MBE skillfully marries together small amounts of our most mature single malts. The aged whisky consists of The Balvenie matured in traditional oak casks and European oak sherry butts that have lain in our warehouses for at least 40 years.

It’s bottled at 48.5% ABV to capture all the signature characteristics of The Balvenie.

The Balvenie 40 Year Old Tasting Notes

Nose: Honey and orange marmalade notes mingle with a creamy fruitiness.

Taste: Orange blossom, candied ginger, and honeyed sweetness, followed by oak, mouth-coating vanilla notes, and a delicate, sherried fruitiness.

Finish: Warm and elegant with a honeyed, citrus richness.

The Balvenie 40 Year Old is true bottled perfection. With notes of dried apricots, candied fruit peels and ginger on the nose, the aroma is elegant and tantalising. The palate is made up with notes of nutmeg, cinnamon and honey – an exquisite dram.
