Description

Originally released for the Travel Retail market, this Bowmore 10 Year Old single malt whisky is a marriage of Spanish oak Sherry casks and hogsheads, resulting in a fine balance between classic coastal Islay smoke and Sherried sweetness.

This Bowmore 10 year old Single Malt Whisky originates from the Bowmore distillery which is located on the island of Islay, on the southern shore of the bay and is one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland.

The dark and intense Bowmore 10 year old Single Malt Whisky convinces with delicious smell traces of dried fruit combined with notes of raisins and maple syrup. In addition the Single Malt shows a gentle smell of peat smoke. The Bowmore 10 year old is characterized by an intense and bold flavor composed of sea salt, dark fruit and sultanas. A pleasantly greasy and smoky touch with a hint of walnut is apparent on the palate. The sweetness of the Bowmore 10 year old comes from the sun dried fruit and sultanas. The spice of the sea salt ensures a balanced taste. The finish is medium length and reflects in particular the notes of subtle peat smoke, fresh walnuts and spices.

The dark amber colored Bowmore 10 year old is a delicious Whisky with a very aromatic and balanced character. The Single Malt is aged in Spanish Oloroso Sherry and American Bourbon barrels. The barrels are matured in close proximity to the ocean and are a good one meter under water at times of flood. The Bourbon casks give the classic vanilla and caramel nuances to the Bowmore 10 year old. The traditional distillery sources locally grown barley, operates its own floor malting’s and the peat is crumbled prior to firing to encourage more smoke. The malt is peated for a shorter time than most other Islay Whiskies. Traditional fermentation takes place in wooden washback’s which is very rare in our times.

The mid-size Bowmore distillery is located in the heart of the capital of Bowmore and bears its name. The town of Bowmore was founded in 1768 and houses approximately 1000 residents. Only eleven years later the Bowmore distillery started its operations in 1779 as the first legal distillery, headed by David Simson. Since then the Bowmore Whisky matures on the shores of Loch Indaal, wide open to the Atlantic Ocean. The distillery has won several environmental awards and produces up to 2 million liters per annum. Today the distillery in the possession of the Japanese Beam Suntory group.
