Discover Indri Agneya Single Malt Indian Whisky 700ml
Indri Agneya Single Malt Indian Whisky is a lightly peated malt made by Piccadily in the village of Indri, Haryana. Most Indian single malts are known for ripe fruit and warm spice. Agneya keeps that character and adds a thread of gentle peat smoke, which makes it a good bottle for anyone curious about smoky whisky who does not want the heavy punch of a strongly peated dram. It is bottled at 46% ABV.
Product Overview
The name Agneya comes from a Sanskrit word meaning “belonging to fire”, a nod to the smoke in the glass. It is the first peated release from the Indri brand and sits alongside the flagship Indri Trini. Where Trini is matured in three cask types, Agneya is a dual cask expression, so the sherry and bourbon influence is easy to pick out. It is non chill filtered, so a little haze in cooler conditions is natural.
Tasting Notes
Appearance
Deep, dark brown.
Aroma
Nutty and ripe fruit on the nose, with dried fruit, vanilla and a soft wisp of smoke.
Palate
Full flavoured and rounded. Expect honeyed malt, sherry richness, ripe fruit and warm spice, with toasted oak holding it together and the peat staying in the background.
Finish
Long and warming, with gentle peat, sweet vanilla and a touch of peppery heat.
Production & Craftsmanship
Agneya is made from indigenous six-row Indian barley that is gently kilned over peat smoke. The whisky is matured in ex-Bourbon and PX sherry casks, including select American oak, a combination that master blender Surrinder Kumar says adds depth and complexity. Indri launched in 2022 and Agneya has since won a double gold medal at the 2025 New York World Spirits Competition.
Serving Suggestions
Pour it neat to get the full balance of fruit, sherry and smoke. A small splash of water opens up the aromas, and a single large ice cube works well if you prefer it cooler. For a smoky twist on a classic, stir it into an Old Fashioned.
Food Pairings
The smoke and spice go well with grilled meats such as nyama choma. Dark chocolate, roasted nuts and smoked fish also suit its flavour.
