Talisker 57° North Single Malt Scotch Whisky 1 Litre is a cask strength bottling from the Talisker distillery, bearing no age statement. This was named for the Isle of Skye sits on the line of latitude 57 Degrees North.
This beautifully release from Talisker boasts huge flavour in the weighty 57.0% ABV.
The malted barley used in production comes from Muir of Ord. Talisker has an unusual feature—swan neck lye pipes. A loop in the pipes takes the vapour from the stills to the worm tubs so some of the alcohol already condenses before it reaches the cooler. It then runs back into the stills and is distilled again. Talisker now has an annual output of three and a half million litres of spirit.
Talisker 57° North Tasting Notes
Nose:Â The nose is very pungent and full. Notes of sour citrus develop with rich peat smoke. Hints of peppered oak and notes of sea spray pounding stones and a little kelp.
Palate:Â The palate is thick and full. Creamy manuka honey and lemon juice, notes of peppered oak and spice, a little butter perhaps and plenty of dry wood.
Finish:Â The finish is long with black pepper and oak.
A distillery-bottled cask strength Talisker, 57° North is deceptively smooth for a whisky at this strength, but still a muscular presence on the palate, with the pepper and chilli Talisker hallmarks very much in evidence. Picked up the top prize in its category (Best Island No Age) at the World Whisky Awards 2012.
