Prazo De Roriz Red Wine Tasting Notes
The wine is a worthy representative of the Douro style, known for its expression of delicious, full, fresh fruit. The Prazo wine is characterized by red fruits, particularly raspberries and cherries, and the Roriz terroir provides a distinctive minerality and appealing peppery spice. Prazo de Roriz is made for drinking young, but with the potential for developing in bottle for several years. It spends four to five months in French oak barrels, a relatively short period, just sufficient to round off the fruit without diminishing its freshness and vibrancy.
VINIFICATION PROCESS
The grapes are collected, judiciously selected and carefully transported in 25kg bins before being crushed. The must and the pomace are then foot trodden by men for 4 hours in the “lagares”, big granite stone wine presses, according to traditional methods. After this period of pre-fermentation, the wine is transfered to open stainless steel tanks where it will stay for 8 days at controlled temperature.
WINE AGING
In French oak barrels for 12 months and then bottle-aged for a period of at least 6 more months.
