Description

Noted for its small yields and intense aromatic profile, Hesketh Clare Valley Riesling has recently found considerable success on Australian soils. This single-vineyard is well established and suited to the region. The vines are vigorous with a great canopy, helping them withstand the heat and dry summer conditions. Its an exciting variety for Clare Valley, showing all the quality hallmarks that the wine is known for. Almost Riesling-like in some ways, but with a texture more akin to Chardonnay. A lovely, medium-bodied wine.

Hesketh Wine Company is a small family owned wine company in the state of South Australia. They work with several independent growers in the region and treat all the wines as traditional wineries would do. But instead of trying to be everything to everyone, the focus is instead on getting the best out of each region and grape variety. In this way, a wide, yet very individual and varied range is created.

Hesketh’s own winery is located in the Barossa Valley, where winemakers Phil Lehmann and Charlie Ormsby take care of the development of the wines and ensure high and constant quality. Phil Lehmann is the son of the legendary Peter Lehmann from Barossa.

The house’s very own style “The Hesketh Style” is based on balance and complexity, but more importantly – drinkability. It produces wines with generous flavors and aromas, which also reflect the vineyards on which the grapes have been grown.

Clare Valley is one of Australia’s oldest wine regions, best known for Riesling wines. It is located in central northern South Australia, about 120 km north of Adelaide. The valley runs north-south, with Horrocks Highway as the main thoroughfare.

The grapes for this wine come from Polish Hill and Watervale – two sub-regions of the Clare Valley. The hot days with many hours of sunshine and the cold nights provide the ideal climate for growing Riesling, which has also cemented the area’s status as Australia’s Riesling “capital”.

The color is light straw yellow with light lime green shades. It has a scent of fresh lemon and lime with notes of perfumed flowers. The taste of violets, mulberries and light berries gives the wine a feminine lightness and flowery taste. A young and fresh wine with hints of citrus, stinging nettle and green apples. Crispy aftertaste that takes the mouthwash. All in all, a harmoniously well-balanced dry Riesling – a good representative of the grape and the “terroir” it is grown in.

Hesketh, Clare Valley, Riesling are suitable for seafood and freshly cooked or steamed fish.
